Dental implants
An implant replaces the root of a missing tooth with a titanium post, and a crown is fitted onto it later. It is one of several options for a gap, and usually the slowest and the most expensive. Whether it suits depends on the bone at the site and on what you want.
What happens
Assessment and imaging
We assess the site and take imaging to see the bone underneath. Not everybody is a candidate, and we will tell you if you are not.
Placement
The post is placed under local anaesthetic. You go home the same day with written aftercare instructions and a number to call.
Healing
The bone integrates with the post over several months. You are seen for reviews during this period.
The crown
Once the site has healed, the crown is made and fitted.

Things worth knowing
- Implants are a multi-appointment treatment that typically runs over three to six months.
- Like any surgical procedure, implant placement carries risks. These are explained in full, in writing, before you consent.
- Bridges and dentures are alternatives. We cover both at the assessment.
- Some cases are better handled by a specialist. We refer those on.
